Mayor of Bagmati Municipality Faces Corruption Charges

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken action against Bagmati Municipality Mayor Bharat Kumar Thapa, filing a corruption case against him. The Constitutional anti-graft body lodged the case in Kathmandu’s Special Court on Wednesday.
Following complaints of alleged illegal accumulation of wealth, the CIAA initiated an investigation, revealing that Mayor Thapa had amassed assets totaling Rs 53.353 million through misuse of his authority, according to a statement released by the CIAA.
Bharat Kumar Thapa, who assumed office as the mayor of Bagmati Municipality in Sarlahi district under the CPN (Maoist Center) ticket, now faces legal proceedings regarding these allegations.
