Nepal Announces Squad for 2024 T20 World Cup

The Cricket Association of Nepal has unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, appointing Rohit Poudel as the team captain. The selection panel made key changes by including pacer Kamal Singh Airee and spinner Sagar Dhakal in the squad, replacing Akash Chand and Bibek Yadav.

The excluded players, Chand and Yadav, were part of Nepal’s team for the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup held in Oman last month. The new selections, Airee and Dhakal, were chosen based on their impressive performances in the recent series where Nepal A faced off against Ireland A. In the T20 segment of the series, Airee secured five wickets and Dhakal took four. They maintained similar form in the one-day matches, each adding four and five wickets to their names respectively.

Nepal finds itself in a challenging Group D for the World Cup, alongside Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. The team will kick off its campaign against the Netherlands on June 4. Following this, they will play Sri Lanka on June 12, South Africa on June 15, and Bangladesh on June 17.

The full squad for the T20 World Cup includes: Rohit Paudel (Captain), Aasif Sheikh, Anil Kumar Sah, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lalit Rajbanshi, Karan KC, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Pratis GC, Sundeep Jora, Abinash Bohara, Sagar Dhakal, and Kamal Singh Airee.
