CM Sodari Clinches Confidence Vote in Sudurpaschim Province Assembly
Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari has secured a vote of confidence from the state assembly with a resounding show of support. During a Thursday meeting, 28 MPs voiced their backing for Sodari’s leadership. Speaker Bhim Bhandari confirmed the unanimous support, with no opposing or neutral votes.
The coalition of supporters included representatives from various political parties: 10 from the Maoist Center, 11 from CPN-UML, 4 from the Unified Samajwadi Party, 2 from Nagarik Unmukti, and an independent parliamentarian.
Chief Minister Sodari faced initial challenges regarding the constitutionality of his appointment, prompting some dissent from five Nepali Congress and Nagarik Unmukti lawmakers. However, after mediation by Speaker Bhim Bhandari, the assembly proceeded with the confidence motion, granting Sodari a solid mandate.
In response to the dissent, members from Nepali Congress, Nagarik Unmukti, and one Rastriya Prajatantra Party representative chose to boycott the session.
