Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak Emphasizes Rule of Law as Cornerstone of Democracy
Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, underscored the importance of the rule of law as a fundamental component of democracy during a discussion organized by the Development, Economic Affairs, and Good Governance Committee at Singha Durbar today.
Minister Lekhak stressed that in a democratic system, legal processes cannot be bypassed, and cases must be handled strictly according to the law. “Cases could not be filed at someone’s wish. They are filed according to the law,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to uphold legal principles.
The Minister called on the committee to provide necessary suggestions to help the government maintain these standards. He also addressed concerns regarding the transfer of police officers and government employees, describing it as a routine administrative procedure. “Employees are transferred and promoted. Generally, the time period is fixed, but sometimes they are transferred before the fixed period. It’s not a big issue,” he explained, urging the public to view these actions as normal and procedural.
Minister Lekhak’s remarks come amidst ongoing discussions about maintaining transparency and good governance within Nepal’s democratic framework. He assured the committee that the government would prioritize the rule of law and requested continuous feedback to improve governance practices.
