173 Lives Lost in Nepal Due to Landslides and Floods Since June 10

Since June 10, a total of 173 people have lost their lives due to natural disasters, including landslides and floods, across various regions of Nepal. The tragedies have struck multiple provinces, with the highest casualties reported in Gandaki Province (54 deaths) and Lumbini Province (33 deaths).

Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for the Police Headquarters, provided the following breakdown of fatalities: three in Kathmandu Valley, 26 in Koshi Province, seven in Madhes Province, 31 in Bagmati Province, eight in Karnali Province, and 11 in Sudurpaschim Province.

The disasters also left 223 people injured, with the highest number of injuries occurring in Gandaki Province (46) and Karnali Province (54). The victims span across all provinces, with efforts to rescue those affected ongoing. A total of 28 people were rescued in Kathmandu Valley, 49 in Koshi Province, and smaller numbers in other regions.

In addition to the loss of life and injuries, the disasters caused significant property damage and displacement. A total of 384 houses were inundated, and 275 houses, 104 huts, 43 bridges, two school buildings, and two government offices were damaged. The floods and landslides also displaced 4,322 families and resulted in the deaths of 812 cattle.

Search operations continue for those missing, with two persons unaccounted for in Koshi Province, 41 in Bagmati Province, and additional missing persons in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Authorities are working to locate the missing individuals and provide relief to the affected communities.
