176 Nepalis Stranded at Sao Paulo Airport, Embassy Assures Assistance
A total of 176 Nepali nationals stranded in the transit area of Brazil’s Sao Paulo Airport are reported to be safe, according to a press release issued today by the Nepali Embassy in Brazil. The embassy is preparing to provide humanitarian assistance as needed.
The embassy’s statement follows news reports that approximately 700 foreigners, including Nepalis, are stranded in transit at the airport. The embassy has assured that it is on standby to offer any necessary support to the Nepali nationals.
There has been a growing trend of individuals traveling to South American countries, including Brazil, with the intention of illegally entering the United States. The embassy noted that many Nepali youths have fallen victim to organized human trafficking networks, often enduring significant hardships and incurring substantial expenses.
In response to this situation, the Brazilian government has implemented a new rule requiring passport holders from certain countries, including Nepal, to obtain a visa before entering Brazil. The embassy clarified that Nepali visitors must now travel directly to their intended destination country via Brazil. Those who fail to do so will be sent back on the same flight and will not be recognized as refugees at the airport.
The embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to providing the necessary assistance to the stranded Nepali nationals.
