Newly Appointed IGP Deepak Thapa’s Decades of Experience Poised to Strengthen Nepal Police

Deepak Thapa has been appointed as the 31st Inspector General of Nepal Police. With an extensive career in law enforcement spanning over three decades, Thapa brings a wealth of experience in crime investigation, human resource management, and disaster response. His appointment was finalized by the government, considering his seniority, efficiency, and effectiveness in police administration.

Born on Mansir 8, 2028 BS, in Sipadol, Bhaktapur, Thapa has an impressive academic background, holding degrees in Law (LL.B.), Political Science (M.A.), and Public Administration (M.P.A.). He joined Nepal Police on Baisakh 19, 2052 BS, and has served in various leadership positions throughout his career. His tenure includes heading multiple district police offices in Rukum, Khotang, Sunsari, Morang, Makawanpur, and Chitwan, where he played a significant role in maintaining law and order.

Thapa has held key positions such as Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Office, Chief of the Bagmati Province Police Office, and Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), where he led major crime investigations. His expertise in law enforcement is complemented by international exposure, having participated in two United Nations peacekeeping missions in Sudan and Liberia. He has also attended 14 foreign training programs and 11 domestic training sessions, further strengthening his capabilities in policing and security management.

Throughout his career, Thapa has been recognized with numerous accolades, including prestigious national honors such as the Prabal Janasevashree and Suprabal Janasevashree medals, along with three United Nations awards. He has also received multiple commendations for his contributions to crime control, police management, and disaster relief efforts.

Thapa’s appointment comes at a crucial time when Nepal faces increasing security challenges, including organized crime, cyber threats, and disaster preparedness. His leadership is expected to bring reforms in policing strategies, improve law enforcement efficiency, and enhance public trust in the Nepal Police.
