The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of Nepal, and various project implementing agencies have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for 10 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal. These projects, which span the education, health, and culture sectors, will be implemented under the grant assistance of the Government of India at a total cost of NPR 625 million.
The projects include the construction of schools, health facilities, and cultural institutions across multiple provinces in Nepal. The MoUs cover the construction of Sanba Secondary School in Taplejung, a monastery in Solukhumbu, an e-library in Chitwan, two health posts in Sindhupalchowk, secondary schools in Gulmi, Rupandehi, and Kailali, a hospital in Humla, and an administrative and hostel building for a secondary school in Bajhang. These projects will be carried out by local authorities, including metropolitan and rural municipalities.
The initiative aims to enhance education, healthcare, and cultural infrastructure, benefiting communities at the grassroots level. Since 2003, India has undertaken 573 such development projects in Nepal, completing 495 across various sectors, including roads, bridges, electrification, irrigation, and social welfare. The remaining projects are in various stages of implementation.
The agreement underscores the strong bilateral ties between India and Nepal, demonstrating India’s continued commitment to supporting Nepal’s development by strengthening its infrastructure in key sectors.
