Ambassador-designate Tamang stresses on promoting economic diplomacy

The Embassy of Nepal in Pretoria, South Africa organised an interaction programme at the residence of Dan Bahadur Tamang, Ambassador-designate, on October 2, for exchanging Dashain greetings, and discussing ways to further strengthen partnership between the Embassy and Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) as well as Nepali diaspora based in South Africa in implementing economic diplomacy activities in a more coordinated, effective and result-oriented fashion.

In his remarks, the Ambassador Tamang extended with profound happiness greetings and best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad for their good health, happiness and prosperity on the joyous occasion of Dashain. Stating that the Embassy and Nepali diasporas working and living in South Africa including other accredited African countries are complementary to each other, he urged Nepali communities to abide by domestic laws of host states and make their stay very productive in all respects.

On the occasion, the Ambassador highlighted the rationale of and priority accorded to economic diplomacy by the Government of Nepal and Nepali mission in the fields of export trade, tourism, FDI, development cooperation, and gainful foreign employment.

There is a great deal of untapped opportunities here in these areas, he said, adding the both the Embassy and Nepali diasporas should continue to work together to this end.Also, he called on Nepali communities to encourage their foreign friends and acquaintances to visit Nepal by disseminating information about the country as a peaceful, secure, and naturally panoramic destination for tourism of all sorts.

Welcoming over seven dozens of Nepali diasporas including NRNA representative, Nepali doctors, students and workers, Charge d’ Affaires Gyan Bahadur Magar expressed gratitude for their important participation and looked forward to the continued partnership, particularly in the Embassy’s economic diplomacy and public diplomacy initiatives.

The participating Nepali diasporas were served with buffet lunch at the end of the programme facilitated by Attaché Bishnu Prasad Dhakal.
