Bajhang Earthquake Update: One Fatality, 135 Houses Destroyed, and Several Injured

The recent earthquake in Bajhang has tragically claimed one life. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Gunamati Dhami from Jaiprithvi Municipality-11 Okhal.

According to information officer Dipesh Chaudhary of the district police office and Police Inspector, Dhami lost her life in a landslide triggered by the earthquake that struck on Tuesday. A police team has been dispatched to the site to assess the situation.

Additionally, eleven individuals sustained injuries during the earthquake in Bajhang. While two have been discharged after receiving medical treatment, nine are still undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
Among the injured are seven-year-old Salina Joshi from Jayaprithvi Municipality-11, Pramila Joshi from the same locality, 18-year-old Sunita Rokaya from Khaptadchhanna Rural Municipality-7, three-year-old Nitik Bohara from Jayaprithvi Municipality-7, Elisa Bam from the same area, 15-year-old Teara Rokaya from Mashta-3, 13-year-old Savita Rokaya from Mashta-1, 36-year-old Shantidevi Thapa from the same place, 23-year-old Ammar Jagri from Durgathali Rural Municipality-6, 18-year-old Kamal Kadal from Diyanot Rural Municipality-3, and 20-year-old Rama Periyar from Jayaprithvi Municipality-10.

The earthquake has caused significant damage to infrastructure in Bajhang, with reports indicating that 135 structures have been affected. Police Inspector Chaudhary stated that Thalara bore the brunt of the damage, with 60 houses sustaining various degrees of harm. In Kedarsyuun, one house was completely destroyed, along with two in Bitthadchir and four in Bungal Municipality. Additionally, 41 houses in Jaya Prithvi Municipality were damaged by the earthquake.

Bajhang has experienced a total of eleven earthquakes with varying epicenters as of Wednesday morning. The most powerful quake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, occurred on Tuesday afternoon, causing more significant impacts in the neighboring districts.
