Yearzan Begum’s heroic performance in goal propelled Bangladesh to a dramatic triumph over India in the SAFF U-16 Women’s Championship final. Begum saved three crucial penalties, securing a 3-2 victory in the shootout after the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw.

An early strike from Anshika Kumari gave India an early lead just four minutes into the match. However, Bangladesh fought back resiliently, with Bariam Binta Hanna netting the equalizer in the 71st minute, forcing the game into a tense penalty shootout.

Bangladesh’s path to the title was marked by impressive performances throughout the tournament. The team showcased its dominance with a flawless record, beginning with a 2-0 victory over Nepal. Subsequent wins against India (3-1) and Bhutan (6-0) further solidified their claim to the championship.

Key contributions from players like Mariam Binta Hanna, Ghuni Marma, and Sathi Munda bolstered Bangladesh’s journey to glory, while India’s efforts, led by standout performances from Shweta Rani and Anbita Raghuraman, fell short in the crucial moments.

The victory adds another feather to Bangladesh’s cap, as they now hold titles in the SAFF Women’s Championship and SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship, showcasing their dominance and prowess in women’s football in the South Asian region.
