Chinese National Arrested in Kathmandu for Alleged Illegal Currency Trading
Kathmandu police have apprehended a 28-year-old Chinese national, Zhou Jiao, in the Lazimpat area on suspicion of engaging in illegal “Hundi” trading, authorities reported.
Zhou, identified by passport number EJ 7279051, was taken into custody by law enforcement officials.
Upon a subsequent search, authorities discovered Zhou was carrying 800 Nepali 1000 rupee notes and 800 notes of 500 rupees.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has transferred the seized cash to the District Police Complex Teku for further scrutiny.
Nepal Rastra Bank’s guidelines reportedly indicate the involvement of these funds in Hundi transactions, prompting police action under relevant legal provisions.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities continue to crack down on illegal currency trading activities.
