COAS Prabhuram Sharma Set to Attend Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conference in India

Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma is scheduled to attend the prestigious Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conference (IPACC), to be held in India from September 25th to 27th. This conference marks a historic occasion as Sharma becomes the latest in a long line of Nepali army chiefs to participate in the IPACC, which has been a significant platform for regional military cooperation and dialogue.

IPACC, a collaborative effort between the US Army’s Indo-Pacific Command and the Indian Army, aims to foster deeper ties among nations in the Indo-Pacific region through strategic discussions and knowledge sharing. The announcement of this year’s conference was jointly made by General James B Jarrard of the US Army and Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth of the Indian Army on April 20th.

Nepal’s Military Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Bhandari disclosed that Chief of Army Staff Sharma’s visit is scheduled from September 25 to 27th. While the visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance military cooperation, Bhandari clarified that no formal exchange of assistance or cooperation agreements are currently on the agenda for the visit.

This visit to India will mark Chief of Army Staff Sharma’s second trip since assuming his role. His prior visit took place from November 9-12, 2021 shortly after he assumed office. During this earlier visit, a tradition of camaraderie and respect between the two countries’ military leaders was upheld, as Sharma was conferred with the Indian Army’s Honorary Maharathi badge.

The upcoming IPACC conference presents a valuable opportunity for Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma and his counterparts from various nations to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and work towards strengthening regional security and cooperation. As Sharma prepares for this important gathering, the focus remains on fostering unity and collaboration among Indo-Pacific countries.

COAS Sharma’s participation marks Nepal’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and enhancing diplomatic ties with neighboring countries. The Indo-Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference is a prominent forum that facilitates the exchange of insights, perspectives, and strategic ideas among military leaders.
