Concerns Arise Over Swift Appointment of General Secretary in Federal Parliament Secretariat

Ramhari Khatiwada, the Chairperson of the State Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, has voiced serious reservations regarding the rapid recommendation for a new General Secretary at the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

Expressing his skepticism, Khatiwada took to Twitter to question the unusually swift decision-making process behind the appointment, particularly considering the impending retirement of twenty lawmakers, including the current Chairman of the National Assembly, whose terms are set to expire next month. The Chairperson raised concerns about the urgency behind the outgoing Chair’s recommendation for a new appointment and pondered on the potential developments taking place behind the scenes.

While Khatiwada clarified that he had no objections to the recommended candidate, he underscored that the procedure followed in the appointment process has given rise to significant concerns. The Chairperson emphasized the need for transparency and a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the decision.

Simultaneously, in a parallel development, General Secretary Bharat Gautam surprised many by tendering his resignation to the President eight months before the conclusion of his tenure. Responding swiftly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, and Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, have put forth the name of Padma Prasad Pandey as a candidate to fill the vacant General Secretary position.
