India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, engaged in a courtesy meeting with President Ramachandra Paudel at Rashtrapati Bhawan Sheetal Niwas this morning. The meeting focused on fostering cooperation between Nepal and India in various key areas.
During the meeting, President Paudel underscored the importance of collaboration and support in enhancing connectivity between Nepal and India, addressing the impacts of climate change, and advancing the development of hydropower projects. Emphasizing a shared responsibility in preserving mountains and water resources, President Paudel stressed the necessity for concerted efforts between the two nations.
According to Kiran Pokharel, the Press Adviser to the President, President Paudel expressed that safeguarding mountains and water resources is a mutual agenda, urging both nations to work earnestly towards this common goal. He specifically sought cooperation from Foreign Minister Jaishankar in the fields of agriculture, energy, tourism development, and human resource advancement in Nepal.
In response, Foreign Minister Jaishankar acknowledged India’s awareness of Nepal’s potential and assured continued support across various sectors. He conveyed India’s commitment to assisting Nepal in its growth and development endeavors.
The courtesy meeting took place as part of Foreign Minister Dr. Jaishankar’s visit to Kathmandu, where he is participating in the Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting. The discussions during the visit are expected to further strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
