Embassy of India in Kathmandu Celebrates India’s 77th Independence Day

The Embassy of India in Kathmandu commemorated India’s 77th Independence Day with fervor and patriotism, aligning with the grand initiative of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ Launched by the Government of India in March 2021, this nationwide celebration honors the monumental milestone of 75 years of India’s independence.

The ceremonial festivities unfolded with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by Naveen Srivastava, the Ambassador of India to Nepal. Ambassador Srivastava, with the emblematic flag unfurling against the sky, extended his warm greetings to the esteemed members of the Indian Diaspora in Nepal.

The program seamlessly transitioned to a poignant moment as the attendees were treated to a heartfelt video address by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. In her address, the President acknowledged the unwavering sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and their indomitable spirit. She highlighted the nation’s remarkable strides in diverse spheres and emphasized the newfound confidence within the Indian diaspora, fostering a strong bond with the ‘India story.’

Touching upon India’s global footprint, the President noted the country’s instrumental role in advancing developmental and humanitarian objectives worldwide. The pivotal leadership role undertaken by India, especially as the presidency of G-20, was underscored as a testament to the nation’s influence in international forums.

In a poignant gesture, the Embassy paid tribute to the valorous Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces by disbursing dues amounting to NPR 5.33 Crore to their widows and next of kin.

The celebratory ambiance resonated with the stirring melodies of patriotic songs and captivating performances by the students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre of the Embassy and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu, infusing the occasion with cultural vibrancy.

Ensuring widespread participation, the event was broadcast live on the Embassy’s official Facebook and YouTube platforms, allowing individuals near and far to partake in the celebrations.

As the tricolor waved proudly against the azure skies of Kathmandu, the Embassy of India reaffirmed its commitment to fostering bilateral ties and celebrating the enduring spirit of independence.
