Emergency Shelter and Training Center Handover in Rautahat District

In a significant development aimed at bolstering disaster resilience, a handover ceremony of an emergency shelter and training center was held in Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality, Rautahat District on Wednesday. The new building, a beacon of hope for the community, stands as a testament to collaborative efforts and international support.

Constructed under the Project for the Construction of an Emergency Shelter Facility and Training Center in Rautahat District, the initiative received crucial assistance totaling $78,414 from the Government of Japan. This support came through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), as highlighted in a press release from the Embassy of Japan in Nepal.

TAMURA Takahiro, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the dedication of all parties involved in the project. He underlined the importance of such endeavors and expressed hope that the facility would serve as a cornerstone for the community’s further development.

Situated at the confluence of the Bagmati River, an area prone to floods, the project addresses a pressing need for adequate emergency evacuation facilities. Prior to the construction, residents faced challenges in accessing safe shelters during times of crisis.

The newly established facility is poised to play a pivotal role in disaster management efforts. It will serve as a refuge during floods and other emergencies, providing safety and security to the local population. Additionally, the center will offer training programs aimed at enhancing residents’ understanding of natural disasters, as detailed in the press release.

With its inauguration, the emergency shelter and training center symbolize resilience, cooperation, and a shared commitment to safeguarding communities against the unpredictable forces of nature.
