Ex-British Gorkha Committee Urges Government for Result-Oriented Talks with UK
The Ex-British Gorkha Satyagraha Joint Struggle Committee has called on the Nepal government to ensure the seventh round of dialogue with Britain addresses key issues, including equal pensions for ex-Gorkha soldiers.
Speaking at a press conference today, Bhim Bahadur Tawa Limbu, Coordinator of the Satyagraha Struggle Committee, warned that if their demands are not met, they will take to the streets and pursue legal action.
Chief Coordinator Krishna Bahadur Rai emphasized the importance of the government conducting thorough groundwork and creating a conducive environment for the seventh round of talks to be result-oriented. He also stressed the need to review the progress of the previous six rounds of negotiations.
The parliamentary committee under the House of Representatives has twice directed the government to engage in necessary consultations with the UK government to address the demands of the British ex-Gorkha soldiers.
Rai attributed the delay in addressing their demands to the colonial mindset of the British government and the lack of necessary preparation on the part of the Nepal government.
The struggle committee shared that there are currently 4,000 Nepali youths serving in the British Army, with over 18,000 retired Gorkhas.
