Former Foreign Minister Urges Action on Gurkha Pension Issue

Former Foreign Minister and Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr. Narayan Khadka has raised concerns over the pension issues faced by former Gurkha soldiers and indicated that international law might be invoked to address the matter.

Speaking at the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee in the parliament, Dr. Khadka emphasized the need for the UK government to provide equal service benefits to British Gurkha soldiers. He warned that failure to do so could escalate the issue to an international legal matter.

Dr. Khadka underscored the gravity of the situation, highlighting the significant contributions made by former Gurkha soldiers and the injustices and discrimination they have endured. He called for support from countries like India and the United States in addressing this issue.

“This is a serious issue involving injustice and discrimination. International law is applicable to this matter, and it may become necessary to pursue legal action,” Dr. Khadka stated.

He urged the Prime Minister and the legislative committee to prioritize discussions on the Gurkha agenda and take proactive steps to address their grievances.
