Four RSP Lawmakers File Writ Petition Against Election Commission

Four lawmakers of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lodged a writ petition against the Election Commission at the Patan High Court on Sunday.

Federal parliament lawmakers Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, Shishir Khanal, Sobita Gautam, and Ganesh Parajuli are seeking redressal for alleged unfair treatment by the central election authority.

The crux of the lawmakers’ complaint centers on a dispute regarding their election expenses. Despite having submitted their detailed election expense reports to the Election Commission (EC), they were surprisingly slapped with fines of Rs 15,000 each.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with the EC’s decision, the RSP lawmakers contended that the commission should follow a more equitable process when dealing with such matters.

According to them, the Election Commission ought to request an explanation from them before imposing fines. The lawmakers emphasized that punitive action should only be taken if the given explanation is deemed unsatisfactory by the election authority.
