Gandaki CM says province government doesn’t wish to prevail over local governments

Gandaki Province Chief Minister, Surendra Raj Pandey, has said the province government is willing to devolve power and resources to local governments.

While chairing the sixth meeting of the Gandaki Province Coordination Council today, he expressed the province government’s desire to empower local governments. “The province government is itself seeking its rights from the federal government,” he said, adding that he longed to see the power devolution from the province to local governments as well.

The meeting organised by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers made various 13 decisions. One key decision involves identifying areas for improvement by assessing the interrelations and mutual cooperation between the province and local governments.

To facilitate the integration of province and local-level projects and programs in the project bank being implemented by the Gandaki province government so as to achieve more results, to establish a province administrative coordination council coordinated by the province chief secretary with the participation of the local governments’ chief administrative officers to promote province-local interrelations and to establish an integrated facilitated mechanism with the participations of local levels to identify, collect, distribute and utilise revenue and natural resources in provinces and at local levels are among the meeting decisions.
