Gandaki Province Advocates Assimilation of Federal Democratic Republic into People’s Culture

As provinces across the nation commemorate the 6th establishment day of province assemblies, there is a resounding call for the strengthening of provincial governments, closely tied to the enforcement of federalism.

Chief of Gandaki Province, Prithvi Man Gurung, has underscored the necessity for the federal democratic republic to become ingrained in the culture and lifestyle of the people. He believes that this assimilation will facilitate people in understanding and embracing the changes in the system.

Speaking at a program organized to mark the establishment day, Gurung emphasized the responsibility of the province assembly and government to act in accordance with the aspirations of the people. He highlighted the significance of lawmaking and development activities undertaken by the province government in ensuring the true enforcement of federalism, expressing the high hopes the people of Gandaki have placed on their provincial representatives.

Gurung stressed the importance of building upon the foundation laid by the enactment of laws during the first term of the province assembly, urging for further actions to realize the achievements made.

Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pande echoed Gurung’s sentiments, stating that the government is committed to the full implementation of the federal democratic system as per the constitution’s guidelines. He emphasized the need to ensure democratic dividends to the people by reinforcing democracy and enhancing the functionality of the province assembly.

UML leader and former Chief Minister Khagaraj Adhikari emphasized the significance of provinces in the federal structure, advocating for the reflection of their relevance in their activities. He called for cooperation from all sides to strengthen province structures and discouraged a centralist mindset.

Meanwhile, CPM (Maoist Centre) leader Hari Bahadur Chuman highlighted the legislative efforts of Gandaki Province, noting the enactment of over 60 laws. He emphasized the importance of expediting the formulation of laws under concurrent rights to further enhance the province’s legislative framework.
