Greg Barkley, Chairman of ICC, Begins Crucial Four-Day Visit to Kathmandu

Greg Barkley, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), arrived in Kathmandu on Monday evening, marking the commencement of a pivotal four-day visit aimed at strengthening ties with Nepal’s cricket fraternity.

Barkley’s visit follows his recent attendance at the Women’s Premier League final in Delhi, showcasing the ICC’s commitment to fostering cricket development in the region. His arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport was met with a warm reception from Paras Khadha, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal, and Treasurer Padam Khadka.

During his stay, Barkley is scheduled to engage in crucial discussions with key stakeholders, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun, and Sports Minister Bhiraj Bhakta Shrestha. Meetings with officials from the National Sports Council and Cricket Association of Nepal are also on the agenda.

A highlight of Barkley’s itinerary includes inspections of cricket facilities at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground and Mulpani International Cricket Stadium, underscoring the ICC’s keen interest in Nepal’s cricket infrastructure and development.

In addition to official engagements, Barkley will experience Nepal’s rich cultural heritage through a scenic mountain flight arranged by the Cricket Association of Nepal. Sightseeing excursions to iconic landmarks such as Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, and Boudhanath Stupa are also planned, offering Barkley a glimpse into the cultural tapestry of Kathmandu Valley.

Despite the brevity of his visit, Barkley’s presence underscores the growing significance of Nepal in the global cricket landscape. He is set to depart on Thursday morning, returning to Delhi to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) before concluding his trip.

Barkley’s visit signals a new chapter in the relationship between Nepal and the ICC, fostering collaboration and paving the way for enhanced cricketing opportunities in the country.
