Heavy Rain Lashes Lumbini Province: Authorities Call for Alert and Precaution

Lumbini province is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, causing disruptions to normal life in various districts, including Rupandehi, Palpa, Nawalparasi, Pyuthan, and nearby areas. The downpour began last night and has intensified, leading to concerns of potential flooding and landslides.

The Tinau river, which runs through the province, has swelled significantly due to the heavy precipitation. Officials from the Tinau Flood Measurement Centre Butwal have reported that the water level in the river has surpassed the danger mark and is continuing to rise. This has significantly increased the risk of flooding, particularly for settlements located close to the riverbank.

In light of the escalating situation, authorities have issued evacuation warnings for residents living near the riverbank and in low-lying areas. People in these at-risk regions are urged to move to safer locations by noon today to avoid potential disasters.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has also taken precautionary measures and issued alerts to residents of low-lying areas and settlements adjacent to riverbanks. Additionally, individuals planning to travel in the region have been advised to exercise caution and be prepared for any adverse weather conditions.

The heavy rainfall has not only raised concerns about flooding but has also triggered landslides in various districts, including Palpa, Arghakhanchi, and Pyuthan. Landslides have caused road blockages in several areas, disrupting transportation routes.

According to reports from the Highway Security and Traffic Management Office Butwal, landslides have affected major roads such as Butwal-Palpa, Gorusinge-Sandhikharka, and Bhaluwang-Pyuthan, making them impassable at certain points.

The local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating emergency response efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas. They urge the public to stay vigilant, follow official advisories, and take necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall and potential hazards.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to keep themselves updated with the latest weather forecasts and official announcements to stay safe in the face of these challenging weather conditions.
