HoR Approves Proposal to Amend Banking Offenses and Punishment Bill

The House of Representatives convened today and granted approval to the proposal regarding the ‘Banking Offenses and Punishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2080.’ Spearheaded by Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, the proposal garnered majority support within the chamber.

The bill, aimed at enhancing the systematic and effective handling of criminal offenses within the banking and financial sector, received a green light from the assembled MPs. Notably, this development marks a pivotal step towards fortifying the investigation, prosecution, and punitive measures concerning banking-related crimes.

Acknowledging the importance of constructive input, MPs have been urged to submit any proposed amendments to the House of Representatives Bill Unit within the stipulated timeframe of 72 hours. This call for suggestions underscores the commitment to ensuring a comprehensive and well-considered legislative framework.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to reconvene for further deliberations on February 22 at 11 am.
