House of Representatives Adjourned Amid Opposition Protest

The second session of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Friday was also disrupted due to protests from the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress (NC).

Previously, the first session had been postponed for 15 minutes due to disruptions caused by the NC and the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party.

When the second session commenced, NC lawmakers gathered around the speaker’s podium, continuing their demand for the establishment of a parliamentary committee to investigate the alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds.

As Speaker Devraj Ghimire gave the floor to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, who is implicated in the embezzlement scandal, he was interrupted by members of the opposition parties.

Although Speaker Ghimire requested the protesting members to return to their seats and listen to Deputy PM Lamichhane, the opposition refused to comply, leading him to adjourn the session.

The next HoR meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM on May 14.
