Ilam district administration launches investigations into video
The district administration office, Ilam, has launched investigations into a video showing inmates of the district prison having engaged in gambling and alcohol-drinking.
The local administration resorted to the move following the circulation of the video on social sites. A three-member committee led by the district administration office officer Hari Kumar Thapa has been formed to investigate the matter, said Chief District Officer Shrawan Kumar Pokhrel.
The committee has begun its work, and action against those involved in the illegal activities would be taken, said Thapa.
The prison employees are suspected to have been involved in the illegal activities. Jailor Sumit Magar confirmed the video showing the involvement of inmates of the prison in illegal activities.
Meanwhile, the prison has more than doubled prisoners beyond capacity. It currently houses 280 inmates against a capacity of 125.
