Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the inauguration of the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuk Mother and Child Hospital in Bhutan, symbolizing the robust partnership between India and Bhutan in healthcare.

Constructed with the assistance of the Government of India, the state-of-the-art hospital in Thimphu stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of both nations towards enhancing maternal and child health services in Bhutan, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Prime Minister Modi, alongside his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay, unveiled the hospital, which has been developed in two phases with Indian support.

“The completion of Phase One in 2019, followed by Phase Two under the 12th Five Year Plan, underscores the comprehensive nature of our cooperation,” affirmed the MEA, highlighting India’s investment of Rs 22 crore and Rs 119 crore for the respective phases.

Equipped with cutting-edge facilities for Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Anesthesiology, Operation Theatre, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Pediatric Intensive Care, the hospital promises to elevate healthcare standards in Bhutan.

“All these facilities are a testament to the strong partnership with the Government of India,” Minister Wangchuk reiterated, emphasizing the collaborative spirit that characterizes the bilateral relationship.
