Interim Order Denied: Supreme Court in Governor Adhikari Case

The Supreme Court (SC) has chosen not to issue an interim order against Mahaprasad Adhikari, the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, amidst concerns raised about his educational qualifications. The decision came following a hearing by the single bench of Justice Sushmalata Mathema, who issued an order mandating a comprehensive hearing on the matter.

A writ petition was filed yesterday by prominent advocates Dipakraj Joshi, Pratap Singh Thakurathi, Damodar Timsina, and Chudamani Bhandari, alleging that Governor Adhikari did not possess the required educational qualifications for the position. The petition has prompted the legal scrutiny of Adhikari’s appointment, which took place on April 6, 2020.

The Supreme Court’s decision to refrain from issuing an interim order suggests a cautious approach, opting instead for a thorough examination of the allegations against Governor Adhikari. This development will likely lead to a more comprehensive legal process to determine the validity of the concerns raised about the educational qualifications of the Nepal Rastra Bank Governor.
