JSP-Nepal Faces Another Split

The Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP Nepal), led by Upendra Yadav, has experienced another division as a group led by Khagendra Makhim, a prominent member of the party’s Political Committee, declared the formation of a new faction named Pahichanwadi Morcha (Pro-Identity Front) on Thursday.

The new faction has appointed Professor Dr. Mahendra Lawati as its coordinator. Makhim, who previously led the Federal Limbuwan Party before it merged with JSP Nepal in 2017, has taken this step citing disagreements with the party’s leadership approach. The leaders of the new faction accuse the JSP Nepal leadership of engaging in power politics, exhibiting non-political behaviors, and neglecting issues related to identity-based politics.

This split comes shortly after another significant faction led by the party’s Vice Chairperson, Ashok Kumar Rai, broke away last Sunday to form a separate entity, registering the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) with the Election Commission.

The repeated splits within JSP Nepal highlight ongoing internal conflicts and differing views on the party’s direction and leadership, particularly concerning ethnic identity and regional issues.
