Judicial Custody Ordered for Controversial ‘Ascetic’ Ram Bahadur Bamjan

The District Court Sarlahi, presided over by Judge Bishnu Prasad Regmi, has directed the judicial custody of Ram Bahadur Bamjan, a self-proclaimed ascetic, in connection with a child abuse case. Following Bamjan’s arrest in Kathmandu on Tuesday night, the court has mandated his placement in judicial custody for a preliminary investigation.

During a court session held at the Sarlahi District Court on Thursday, Bamjan provided his statement. Kailash Dahal, the head of the Sarlahi District Public Prosecutor’s Office, strongly advocated for the court order to remand Bamjan in jail. In response, more than half a dozen lawyers represented Bamjan’s interests, presenting a counterargument during the proceedings.

After a thorough deliberation of both sides, Judge Regmi issued the order for Bamjan to be placed in prison pending further investigation. The decision comes amidst a backdrop of growing concerns surrounding the alleged child abuse case involving the self-proclaimed ascetic.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police played a pivotal role in facilitating Bamjan’s transfer to the Sarlahi District Police Office in Malangwa, with the transfer taking place at 2 o’clock in the night. The move signifies a significant step in the legal proceedings against Ram Bahadur Bamjan, with the judicial system taking concrete action to address the serious allegations against him.
