Korean Trekker Dies in Everest Region

A tragic incident occurred in the Sagarmatha (Everest) region as a Korean national lost his life during a trekking expedition. The deceased, identified as Hyunchal Swang, aged around 47, hailed from Korea, as confirmed by the District Police Office.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Shrestha, Swang met his untimely demise on March 11 while returning from climbing the Island Peak in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality-4. The fatal accident transpired when Swang slipped and fell approximately two meters from the trail.

Authorities noted that Swang’s body was airlifted to Lukla and has undergone necessary legal procedures before being sent to the TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for a post-mortem examination.

Reports indicate that Swang had arrived in Khumbu on March 11 under the guidance of the Atex Company for mountaineering purposes.
