Lamjung Youth Enlisted in Russian Army Succumbs to Russia-Ukraine Conflict

A somber atmosphere envelops Dudhpokhari-1 as the community mourns the tragic demise of 32-year-old Sajan Gurung, who lost his life while deployed in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Dudhpokhari-1 Ward Chairman, Durgaman Gurung, officially confirmed the news, conveying the heart-wrenching details of Sajan’s passing. Sajan, who had recently joined the Russian army for employment opportunities, met an untimely end in the conflict zone.

The Gurung family received the devastating news just five days ago, as shared by Chairman Gurung. Sajan’s friends in Russia were the initial bearers of the sorrowful tidings, conveying the unfortunate incident to his brother, Kumar Gurung. Kumar, who was in Germany at the time, promptly informed the grieving family in Nepal.

Having served as the Young Communist League (YCL) Chairman of Dudhpokhari rural municipality in Nepal, Sajan left for Russia three months prior to the tragic incident. His dedication to public service and his decision to join the military for employment opportunities showcase his commitment to making a difference in his community and beyond.

The final rites for Sajan Gurung took place on January 14, marking the end of a life that touched many in the Lamjung region. Survived by his father, mother, wife, and a son, Sajan’s untimely departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him.

The Lamjung community extends its heartfelt condolences to the Gurung family during this difficult time, reflecting on the sacrifice made by a dedicated young man who sought to contribute to global peace.
