Lawmaker Advocates for Parliamentary Freedom of Expression

Ganga Prasad Yadav, a lawmaker from the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has highlighted the need for Members of Parliament to have the freedom to express their opinions in the House without constraints imposed by party whips.

In a candid interview with Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Yadav emphasized that MPs often face limitations in articulating their views on critical national issues due to party whips. He expressed concern that such practices are prevalent across all political parties, hindering the parliamentary platform’s effectiveness as a representation of the people’s voice.

Yadav pointed out that MPs are not provided with adequate time to express their thoughts in the parliament, limiting their ability to present the ideas and opinions of their constituency people. He argued against restricting lawmakers from presenting their views and emphasized the importance of allowing MPs to speak freely on behalf of their constituents.

“The way parliament is functioning now is not right. Parliament has to function independently. MPs should have the freedom to speak,” stated Yadav, underlining the necessity of ensuring a more open and democratic parliamentary environment.

While acknowledging the primary responsibility of lawmakers in lawmaking, Yadav also stressed the importance of focusing on development works. He lamented the current state of development, citing ineffectiveness and chaos in various sectors. Yadav expressed concern that politics has become a means of earning rather than serving the public interest.

As a representative from the main opposition party, Yadav’s views shed light on the challenges faced by MPs in expressing their perspectives freely within the parliamentary framework.
