Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba Assures Safety of Nepali Students in Bangladesh
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has assured the public that all Nepali students in Bangladesh are safe. This morning, she took to social media to share updates regarding the status of Nepali students and other Nepali nationals residing in Bangladesh.
“The Dhaka-based Nepali Embassy has been regularly in touch with local authorities, college administrations, and Nepali students regarding their safe stay, security, and other assistance as required,” the Minister stated.
The recent developments in Bangladesh have affected Nepali students living there. Minister Rana mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made proper arrangements for their safe stay and facilitated their return to Nepal if necessary. She emphasized that the Embassy has been instructed to ensure the safety of students and coordinate their travel for those wishing to return home.
On Sunday alone, 115 Nepali students returned home by air, and 305 returned through the Kakadbhitta border point. Ministry officials welcomed 57 Nepali students at Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday morning.
A ‘help desk’ has been established at the Ministry, and a responsible officer has been designated for necessary coordination. The Nepali Embassy in Dhaka has been maintaining regular contact to assist Nepali students amid the evolving situation in Bangladesh.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1,200 students have returned home from Bangladesh as of Sunday. Local students in Bangladesh have been protesting against the government’s quota system in employment, leading to disruptions that have affected Nepali students studying there.
