NAC Given 15 Days to Provide ‘Convincing Reply’ on Narrow-Body Aircraft Repair
The International Relations and Tourism Committee, operating under the House of Representatives, has summoned the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to submit crucial documents regarding the maintenance of a narrow-body aircraft within the next 15 days. This directive comes in light of growing concerns over alleged irregularities and corruption surrounding the repair process of the aircraft’s engine.
During a meeting convened at Singha Durbar, Committee President Raj Kishore Yadav emphasized the need for a convincing response from the national flag carrier regarding the ongoing maintenance issues. The NAC, which dispatched its narrow-body aircraft for repairs to Israel on January 11, has faced mounting criticism over delays and reported discrepancies in the repair process.
Lawmakers present at the meeting expressed deep concern over the prolonged duration of the aircraft’s repair, which has significantly disrupted flight schedules and operations. As a response to these concerns, there have been calls for the establishment of a separate committee to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Moreover, lawmakers including Bhim Prasad Acharya, Sunita Baral, and Shishir Khanal, among others, urged the NAC to undertake comprehensive restructuring efforts to address internal irregularities and enhance operational efficiency. They emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NAC and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to uplift Nepal’s aviation industry and improve service reliability.
In response to mounting pressure, Minister for Culture and Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hit Bahadur Tamang, assured swift action if any wrongdoing is substantiated within the NAC. Meanwhile, NAC executive chair Yubaraj Adhikari reiterated that the repair procedures have adhered to established regulations.
As the investigation unfolds, stakeholders await concrete actions to restore transparency and accountability within the Nepal Airlines Corporation, ensuring the integrity of its operations and bolstering confidence in the country’s aviation sector.
