NC Koshi Province Committee Recommends Candidates for NA Election

The Koshi Province Committee of the Nepali Congress has put forth eight names as potential candidates for the upcoming National Assembly election in the province. The decision, made during a committee meeting, was influenced by recommendations received from various district committees, as reported by a leader within the province committee.

The list of recommended candidates comprises prominent leaders who faced setbacks in the House of Representatives and provincial assembly elections held in November of the preceding year. Notably, the province committee has suggested the names of Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Mahesh Acharya, Dr. Minendra Rijal, Sujata Koirala, Dila Sangraula, Gururaj Ghimire, Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, Ang Gelu Sherpa, and Rukmini Koirala.

Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Sujata Koirala faced defeats in the House of Representatives elections from Jhapa-3 and Morang-2 constituencies, respectively. Similarly, Gururaj Ghimire experienced a setback in the provincial assembly election from Morang-4 (A) constituency.

The National Assembly seats from Koshi Province that are soon to be vacant include two under the ‘Others’ category and the women’s quota. Given the ongoing formation of alliances in the National Assembly election, the Nepali Congress is poised to secure one of the two available seats.

Sources within the Nepali Congress indicate that party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is particularly interested in having Krishna Prasad Sitaula represent the party in the upper house. It is rumored that Deuba has formally expressed his desire for Sitaula to assume the role of National Assembly Chairperson.
