Nepali Congress Reschedules Mahasamiti Meeting

The central work execution committee (CWEC) of the ruling Nepali Congress has decided to adjourn the Mahasamiti meeting for the third time, rescheduling it for February 19 to 22. The decision was communicated by Min Bishwakarma, the chief of the party’s Central Information, Communication, and Publicity Department, following a meeting held in Sanepa.

The primary reason cited for the rescheduling is the upcoming National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25 next year. The government’s decision to hold elections has prompted the party to reconsider the timing of the Mahasamiti meeting.

“We have rescheduled the Mahasamiti meeting for February 19 to 22 due to the imminent elections of the National Assembly,” explained Bishwakarma.

This marks the third time the Mahasamiti Meeting has been postponed. Initially scheduled for November 29 to December 1, it was first rescheduled for December 15 to 17, citing the Jajarkot earthquake. Subsequently, it was again postponed to January 1 to 3, citing a lack of preparations. Now, for the third time, the meeting has been adjourned to February 19-22, attributing the delay to the National Assembly elections.

A faction of the Congress, led by Shekhar Koirala, had been preparing to exert pressure on the establishment to ensure the timely convening of the Mahasamiti meeting.
