Nepali Congress Targets Minimum of 10 Seats in National Assembly Elections

In a strategic move, the Nepali Congress (NC), a prominent partner in the ruling alliance, has announced its ambitious goal of securing a minimum of 10 seats in the upcoming National Assembly elections. The decision was formalized during the Central Performance Committee meeting held on Friday, where party leaders convened to deliberate and finalize their electoral strategy.

The National Assembly elections, slated for January 25, 2024, have assumed significant political importance as the terms of office for one member and 19 elected members nominated by the President are set to expire on March 3, 2024. As political parties brace themselves for a crucial electoral battle, the NC is gearing up for an assertive participation.

Committee member Ananda Dhungana revealed that the Nepali Congress has actively involved all seven provincial working committees to recommend potential candidates for the upcoming elections. In a bid to ensure a competitive and diverse pool of aspirants, each province has been tasked with proposing three individuals for the coveted seats.

To expedite the candidate selection process, Min Bishwakarma, the Head of the Publicity Department, emphasized the urgency for provinces to recommend candidates within a strict 7-day timeframe. Furthermore, the central office is set to dispatch comprehensive guidelines for recommending candidates, aiming to establish a streamlined and transparent selection process.
