Nepali Congress to Listen to Home Minister’s Address with Skepticism

The Nepali Congress (NC) has agreed to hear Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s statement during today’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR), although they remain cautious about the potential content of his address. Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak indicated that the NC’s patience is thinning, warning that Parliament disruptions could resume if Lamichhane’s explanations about his alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case do not meet their expectations.

In a recent conversation, Lekhak expressed that clarity and substantial evidence are crucial from Lamichhane to address the allegations effectively. “We will give him a chance,” Lekhak stated, reflecting the party’s readiness to engage despite past hesitations.

This openness follows a formal request by the Home Minister, who sent a letter to Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Wednesday, asking to be allowed to address the parliamentarians.

The political landscape has seen shifts, particularly after a split in the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, prompting the Nepali Congress to demonstrate a more flexible approach towards other parties, including the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Despite earlier reluctance to establish an inquiry committee to investigate the accusations against Lamichhane during the budget session, the current scenario might propel new actions depending on the outcome of today’s parliamentary address.
