Office of Election Officer to be established from Jan. 1

In preparation for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25, the establishment of the Office of the Election Officer is slated to commence in all provinces starting January 1.

The Election Commission, on December 28, appointed district judges in seven districts as election officers in accordance with the National Assembly Election Act, 2055, with the appointments taking effect from January 1.

After the appointments, the newly appointed election officers are tasked with establishing the Office of the Election Officer in their respective provinces, as announced by EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel.

The Election Commission has designated the following judges for the positions:

District Court Morang judge Durga Prasad Dhungel in Koshi province

District Court Dhanusha judge Narayan Prasad Subedi in Madhes province

District Court Makawanpur judge Mahendra Bahadur Karki in Bagmati province

District Court Kaski judge Keshav Prasad Bastola in Gandaki province

District Court Dang judge Kripasur Karki in Lumbini province

District Court Surkhet judge Bishnu Prasad Aryal in Karnali province

District Court Kailali judge Om Prasad Aryal in Sudurpaschim province.

The filing of nomination papers for National Assembly candidates is scheduled for January 8. The tenure of 20 upper house members, comprising 19 elected members and one nominated by the President, concludes on March 3. According to legal provisions, the election must take place one month before the end of their tenure.
