Oli Defends Home Minister Lamichhane Against Calls for Parliamentary Inquiry

KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of the CPN-UML, has strongly defended Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane against demands for a parliamentary inquiry initiated by the opposition Nepali Congress.

During a UML parliamentary party meeting held on Friday, Oli criticized the push from the opposition for Lamichhane’s resignation and the formation of an investigative committee. He described the moves as unnecessary and politically motivated.

“The moment an investigation committee forms, the Nepali Congress will start demanding Lamichhane’s resignation,” Oli told his party members, indicating that the opposition’s demands were premature and biased.

Oli also raised questions about the specific focus of the proposed investigations, particularly regarding the operations of cooperatives. He questioned whether there was a financial crisis or investor losses that necessitated such scrutiny.

Addressing concerns about fairness in the investigation, the UML chairman stressed that any inquiry should be broad and not target individuals selectively. “If there’s a complaint, the investigation should target everyone involved,” he asserted.

Oli’s remarks underline the UML’s stance in defending its member against what it perceives as politically charged allegations by the Nepali Congress, setting the stage for further political debates on the issue.
