Opposition Parties Halt Budget Session Over Cooperative Fraud Case

In Kathmandu today, the budget session of parliament came to a standstill as the Nepali Congress, supported by other opposition parties, blocked proceedings. The opposition has declared that they will persist in this disruption until a parliamentary committee is established to investigate a significant cooperative fraud case.

Gagan Thapa, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, stated in a parliamentary meeting that their party will not participate in any legislative activities until the formation of the investigative committee is confirmed. The Nepali Congress is pushing for an investigation into the case, pointing to potential involvement by Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Joining the Nepali Congress in their demands, the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party has also advocated for the creation of a committee to probe into cooperative fraud cases. This joint opposition has escalated the pressure on the government, highlighting urgent calls for transparency and action against alleged corruption.
