PM Dahal Advocates for Global Peace and Harmony from Lumbini

In an eloquent address at the sacred birthplace of Buddha, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda shared Nepal’s commitment to lasting peace and harmony both domestically and globally. Speaking in the presence of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the Nepali government’s dedication to concluding the remaining task of the peace process — the Transitional Justice (TJ) system.

“Our ultimate aim is to ensure lasting peace and harmony in the country,” Prime Minister Dahal stated during a special program in Lumbini. He expressed gratitude for the international community’s support and urged for their continued goodwill and understanding. The Prime Minister praised the resilience of the Nepali people, citing the successful transition to stability and peace through a home-grown and nationally owned peace process.

“We believe that our peace process could be a good example for countries and societies facing similar situations,” he stated, expressing Nepal’s willingness to contribute to the global knowledge base of conflict management.

Prime Minister Dahal highlighted Nepal’s profound cultural heritage, rooted in the teachings of Buddha, emphasizing the values of inclusion, empowerment, economic prosperity, and justice for enduring peace. He underscored Nepal’s belief in unity in diversity, describing it as the nation’s strength.

The Prime Minister praised Secretary-General Guterres’ visit to Lumbini, acknowledging the UN’s historical association with the development of the sacred site. He noted the UN’s role in promoting peace and harmony and lauded the Secretary-General’s commitment to raising awareness about climate change’s impact on mountain communities.

Prime Minister Dahal concluded his speech with a message of unity, echoing the timeless wisdom of Buddha: “May all be blessed with auspiciousness,” and emphasizing the world as a global family, saying, “The world is a family.”

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ visit to Lumbini carries special significance, symbolizing the convergence of core values of peace, harmony, and understanding that the sacred place represents, and the UN’s mission to protect and promote these values on a global scale.
