Prachanda may become monarchist, says Mahesh Basnet

CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has accused Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” of potentially adopting a monarchist stance. At a power demonstration in Tinkune, Basnet expressed concerns about the republic, stating, “Yesterday, KP Oli was accused of being a monarchist rather than a republican. Today, Comrade KP and UML wings have united to counter those questioning the foundation of the republic.”

Highlighting the importance of the Federal Democratic Republic in Nepalese society, Basnet questioned the silence of political figures, saying, “The Federal Democratic Republic is a system that Nepalese society has upheld for a long time. When it is under attack, UML is the first to defend it. Why hasn’t Prachanda spoken? Why hasn’t Sher Bahadur Deuba expressed his views?”

Basnet emphasized that, in his view, there is no imminent threat to the republic, and the current situation is merely a matter of raising questions. He suggested, “Prachandaji might even consider embracing a royalist stance to perpetuate the conflict. Yesterday, the general secretary of his party, Dev Gurung, echoed a similar sentiment.”
