Prachanda’s Leadership Questioned: NC Leaders Demands Review of Coalition

Leaders from the Nepali Congress (NC) have called for a thorough review to determine whether they should continue their participation in the government led by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The decision came during an ongoing central committee meeting, where several NC leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s performance and sought a reevaluation of the ruling coalition.

Central member Rajeev Dhungana voiced concerns about the current coalition dynamics, highlighting that despite Dahal being the Prime Minister, the coalition was led by NC, and the government appeared to be failing in monitoring the rising inflation. Dhungana also criticized the lack of a noticeable decrease in corruption levels, despite a few corruption cases being opened. He raised concerns about the state of law and order, citing instances of violence against party members.

Dhungana questioned the value of NC’s participation in the government if Dahal’s party claimed credit for positive achievements while NC had to bear the burden of the government’s failures. He stressed the need for a serious and comprehensive review of this situation.

Another central member, Pradip Paudel, emphasized that merely participating in the government should not be seen as an achievement. He called upon NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba to assert influence and ensure that PM Dahal fulfilled certain responsibilities. Paudel expressed his disappointment, stating that he had not witnessed any significant accomplishments by their party members within the Cabinet.

Bhim Parajuli, another central member, echoed the sentiment for a review and raised concerns about Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha’s alleged intentions to target NC leaders. Parajuli also highlighted news reports linking Maoist Center Vice-chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara to gold smuggling and questioned why Mahara had not been arrested or charged.

Furthermore, Parajuli called for the formation of a new coalition in Koshi province, emphasizing the importance of stability in the regional government.

The call for a serious review of their participation in the CPN (Maoist Center) government marks a significant development within the Nepali Congress, reflecting growing discontent with the current coalition’s performance and governance.
