President Paudel Commemorates Army Day at Tundikhel

President Ramchandra Paudel graced a special ceremony organized by the Nepali Army at Sainik Manch Tundikhel today to mark Mahashivaratri and the 261st Army Day.

As the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Nepali Army, President Paudel laid floral wreaths at the military memorial and received a salute from the Nepali Army. The occasion of Mahashivratri has been celebrated as Army Day by the Nepali Army for years.

During the ceremony, President Paudel released the annual magazine ‘Sipahi-2080,’ published by the Nepali Army’s Directorate of Military Public Relations and Information. He also presented awards to Tanka Bahadur Dangi and Jaganath Danai, who secured the first and second positions, respectively, in the ‘Free Fall Jump’ competition.

In addition, the President bestowed gifts upon the team leaders of the Indian, British, and American military units, who performed during the Army Day celebrations.

Earlier in the day, an army helicopter showered flowers, and the national flag, along with a banner reading ‘Army Day-2080,’ was prominently displayed. The Nepali Army presented a grand Mahashivratri parade and march past, showcasing rifles and cannons. The event also featured various artistic performances, dances, and musical renditions by the army.

A display of military vehicles, equipment, and weapons used by the Nepali Army in UN peacekeeping missions was also organized.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Constitutional bodies, high-ranking government officials, heads of security agencies, representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal, and distinguished members of society.

A large crowd gathered in and around Tundikhel to witness the grandeur of the Army Day celebrations. The event was broadcast live by Nepal Television and other media outlets.

At the function, Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma conferred the COAS Commendation Medals to individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields of society.
