Prime Minister Prachanda’s Participation in 78th UNGA Receives Cabinet Approval

The government of Nepal has granted approval for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to attend the forthcoming 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The annual UNGA session is scheduled to convene at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, commencing on September 5, with the high-level General Debate slated for September 19.

During a convened Council of Ministers meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar today, the decision to allow PM Dahal’s participation was reached. This significant development was confirmed by Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, who also serves as the government’s spokesperson.

Prime Minister Dahal is poised to lead the Nepali delegation at the UNGA event, which is themed ‘Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity’. His presence at the assembly is expected to contribute to Nepal’s diplomatic engagement and international cooperation efforts.

Furthermore, the Cabinet meeting yielded other crucial decisions. The government approved a loan assistance of over 3.29 billion Japanese Yen, to be extended by the Government of Japan, to support the Dhulikhel Hospital’s Trauma and Emergency Centre Reform Project. This project aligns with Nepal’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services across the nation.

In a move to streamline financial regulations, the Cabinet endorsed the revision of the Securities and Issuance Seventh Amendment Regulations-2080 BS by the Nepal Securities Board. This revision is in accordance with the Securities Act-2063 BS, Section 116, sub-section 1, with the aim of ensuring a robust and secure financial market.

The Cabinet also posthumously conferred the title of ‘Jana Gayak’ (People’s Singer) upon the late JB Tuhure, an influential figure in Nepal’s music scene. Known for his progressive songs that played a pivotal role in catalyzing political changes within the country, Tuhure also served as a member of the second Constituent Assembly, representing the then CPN (Maoist). He passed away in 2021 at the age of 78.

In addition, the meeting conveyed condolences to Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati, who recently lost his father. The government expressed its deep sympathy and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this trying time.
