Rabi Lamichhane Assures Repayment of Depositors’ Money, Even via Ordinances

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, speaking at an election rally in Chulachuli, Ilam, assured depositors that their funds in cooperatives will be returned, potentially via governmental ordinances. Lamichhane, who also chairs the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), pledged that the government is committed to creating a legal framework, if necessary, to ensure the return of public savings.

During his speech on Tuesday, Lamichhane discussed ongoing efforts with the Prime Minister to address the issue, acknowledging legal hurdles in auctioning collaterals but affirming the government’s resolve to amend laws to secure justice for victims.

Highlighting past political disappointments in Ilam, Lamichhane expressed confidence that the people of Ilam will now resist undue influences in the upcoming by-elections, demonstrating their free will. He also projected that the RSP would achieve a majority in the elections of 2084 BS and challenged the efficacy of traditional parties in addressing citizen concerns, prompting Ilam’s voters to reconsider their future electoral choices.
