Rare Quartz Crystal to Find Permanent Home at Gorakha Durbar

A rare quartz crystal, seized from a residence in Satipipal of Gorakha Municipality-7 last June, is set to find its permanent abode within the historic precincts of Gorakha Durbar.

Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal revealed that an all-party meeting, orchestrated by the District Administration Office Gorakha, convened on Saturday, unanimously concluded to house the valuable mineral within the revered premises of Gorakha Durbar. The decision marks a significant milestone in the management of this archaeological treasure.

Weighing a substantial 52.330 kilograms, the quartz crystal has been under the custody of the District Police Office since its confiscation from the residence of local resident Rammaya Shahi on June 29, 2023. The mineral’s purported historical and archaeological significance prompted its confiscation amidst suspicions of illicit trade.

The fervent appeals from the local populace, urging for the crystal’s preservation within the district, echoed the sentiments of cultural preservation and historical reverence. Responding to these appeals, the Ministry’s directive prompted the decisive action to retain the precious artifact within the heart of Gorakha.

CDO Dahal affirmed that the District Security Committee will oversee the modalities for safeguarding the quartz crystal, which will be nestled in the vacant space between Gorakha Durbar and the Gorakhkali Temple. Notably, Gorakha Municipality has pledged to shoulder the entire financial burden for the crystal’s maintenance.

As the sun sets on the bureaucratic deliberations, a new dawn emerges for Gorakha, with its cherished heritage poised to be safeguarded and celebrated within the hallowed walls of Gorakha Durbar, a testament to the enduring legacy of the Gorakhalis.
